CP for platform to be decommissioned
A design life of five years was needed
Deepwater was contracted to validate the proposed cathodic protection (CP) retrofit of LongLinkā¢ anode strings for an older platform near the California coast. The platform, sitting in 211 feet of water, will be shut down and put into standby awaiting approval of decommissioning permits that could take up to five years to complete. The jacket structure is currently protected by an impressed current cathodic protection system (ICCP) which will no longer be operable after topsides power generation is shut down. To maintain corrosion protection of the jacket structure, a retrofit sacrificial anode system with a design life of five years was installed. A total of 26 anode strings, each 240 feet long with fifteen 45 lb anodes, were spaced around the platform and suspended from standoffs welded to horizontal tubular supports.
